We need 2 more students for Lisa Yang's Local King Rubber Stamp afternoon class from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11. The two classes are totally different from each other. We hope 2 more students sign up so Lisa doesn't postpone this class . . . please call the store for more details at 360.357.6820 or stop in. Lisa's classes are always fun and we learn techniques that are quick and simple.

"Dogwood branch

I want to show you another card with stamps from the new catalog :

The dogwood branch stamp is white heat embossed on the label and colored with distress inks (wild honey, rusty hinge, mustard seed and crushed olive). Added some brown distress ink around the edges to make it more stand out.

The background cardstock is sponged with distress inks shabby shutters and crushed olive and randomly stamped the elegant branch with crushed olive distress ink.

For the butterfly I colored a piece of white cardstock with wild honey distress inks and spritz it with water. Than stamped the butterfly on it with rusty hinge distress ink. Cut it out and added some extra rusty hinge around the edges with the blending tool. Finally added some pearls for the finishing touch.

The sentiment is stamped with Archival black."

Stamps used:
Dogwood
Elegant Branch
Butterfly

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND
WE WILL BE CLOSED FOR LABOR DAY

Wednesday, September 4, 10am-5pm, Fred Mullett – “ELEGANT MESS + JUST THE MESS PLUS = ELEGANT MESS PLUS$80 (Students may make a $40 deposit, with the final payment due 10 days before the class.)
(This class is a combination of the original, regular Mess and the previously offered Rest Of The Mess.  It is intended as a 6 hour Workshop offerinplus a 1 hour break.)

DESCRIPTION:
A veritable food fight of a class! Where the spontaneous meets the specific. Where the positive meets the negative. And where leftovers go to play. We will fiddle around with principles of figure/ground relationship as we integrate Ranger Color Wash Dyes and Luminarte H2Os, collage, stencils, and stamps on Oriental and watercolor paper with remarkable results.

We then take the Mess approach to festively decorating papers further and play with positive and negative space using stencils and masks. All in-class efforts focus around a 2.5" x 3.75" note card treatment, but this process is suitable for large format work as well.
Understanding the concepts of positive and negative space can add miles to one's artistic efforts! Runs 6 hours (not including a break around the mid-point). Includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

Wednesday, September 4, 6-8pm, Fred Mullett – “JUST THE MESS PLUS$30
(This class is the previously offered Rest Of The Mess and is now part of the "Elegant Mess...Plus".  It is offered here separately for those who have taken the earlier 4 hour Elegant Mess in the past. This is a firm prerequisite.)
DESCRIPTION:
Beyond the original “Elegant Mess” class, we continue to explore positive and negative space using festively decorated Asian and watercolor paper, then over-print using masks and stencils to suppress some areas and bring out others. We'll accentuate our choices with line and color and instill in each piece a great sense of whimsy...and maybe some bling too. We’ll again mount our favored efforts onto A-2 size notecards, but will see other examples of usage.
Runs 2 hours.  Includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

Thursday, September 5, 10am-5pm, Fred Mullett – “SPRITZ ME + JUST THE SPRITZ PLUS = SPRITZ ME, BABY PLUS$80  (Students may make a $40 deposit, with the final payment due 10 days before the class.)
This class is a combination of the regular Spritz and the expanded work/play time being labeled The Spritz PLUS.  It is intended as a 6 hour+ Workshop offering.
DESCRIPTION:
Finding merit in the "less is more" concept and the power of imprecision, this class focuses on the soluble properties of markers and other water-based media to achieve watercolor effects using rubber stamps. Bleaching out imagery on black paper, then re-introducing color with high contrast accents is also tackled to achieve startling effects.
We continue by taking all the fun ideas covered in the first half of the class and give ourselves some serious play time putting them to use. We’ll try pretty much anything from cropped efforts for some A-2 size notecards, to larger watercolor treatments to page size artwork that can be mounted on other flat surfaces like the composition books seen in the samples.
Chlorine bleach is used in this class. Due to the caustic nature of this chemical, students are STRONGLY warned of the hazards! Suggested safety materials may include - but are not limited to - latex gloves, a work apron, and eye protection. Remember to take care, and to look out for those around you and their property, and the property of the sponsoring institution for this class.
Runs 6 hours (not including a break around the mid-point) and includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

Thursday, September 5, 6-8pm, Fred Mullett – “JUST THE SPRITZ PLUS$30
This class is an advanced addendum of the regular Spritz Me, Baby class.  It is a continuation of the original and is NOT for beginners!
It is mandatory they have taken the regular Spritz class as a pre-requisite for this one.  Though it is included in the 6-hour workshop, as a separate class, it is for experienced students only.)
DESCRIPTION:
This session takes all the fun ideas brought up in the original “Spritz Me, Baby!” class and gives us some serious play time putting them to use. We’ll try pretty much anything from cropped efforts for some A-2 size notecards, to larger watercolor treatments to page size artwork that can be mounted on other flat surfaces like the composition books seen in the samples.
Runs 2 hours. $30.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students

Including the above, we have a lot more fabulous classes planned for Summer and Fall, with renowned instructors.  We are arranging for dates and times with Judikins; Art Impressions (classes and trunk show); Some Assembly Required (Hasty Lace - classes and trunk show), and Marah Johnson of Splash of Color (think Silks acrylic glazes and InkaGold).

Sat, September 28, 1:00-4:00pm, Susan Thomason – Paper Lamp$35

THIS IS A REPRESENTATION of the lamp;
the papers will be different dependent upon the papers
available for the class and your selection at class time.
You’ll have fun making this lovely 3D lamp, illuminated by a flickering battery operated light. There will be a choice of two different kits. One would be pretty all year around, the other perfect for the Christmas holidays. All the paper products will be supplied, precut, and ready for you to assemble and decorate in the class. You will leave with a completely finished lamp, ready for you to display. You will need to bring your Basic Kit, including a strong quick drying adhesive, and/or double sided tape. (I suggest either Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive, Zip Dry Paper Glue, or ScorTape.) After you’ve made one of the lamps, you may decide that you want to make the other, so additional kits will be available for purchase after the class.

This weekend's Recycled Rubber is going to be one of the biggest ones we've seen in quite a while. There is so much Recycled Rubber that has been brought into the store this past month. You certainly don't want to miss out . . . it starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Art 'n Soul! For best selection, you'll want to be there early!
