Beat the Heat: Designer Inspiration

JULY 23, 2013
"So how does Elizabeth like to Beat the Heat? Well, she embraces it and makes a bright, sunshiny decorative notepad!
by Elizabeth Allan for Penny Black
The finished size of this notepad is 3 x 4 inches.  Elizabeth created the cover by stamping 30-181 Lace Trims in VersaMark Watermark ink and coloring with PanPastels applied with Sofft Art Sponges. The die-cut butterfly, Creative Dies 51-006 Flutters, was painted with crimson acrylic paint and placed on a band accented with tiny pearl dots made with 3D paint.
Don’t forget, you can Beat the Heat with us and play along with our current challenge…

I'm so excited! Remember those fun journal books that we discovered when we took an art journal class from Linda with LostCoast? I've just talked to the publishing house in Pennsylvania and we'll be able to obtain a supply for Art 'n Soul!

I have been hoarding my one book for fear of doing something dastardly to it. Now I'll be able to work in it with free abandon. The size, structure, page texture and flexibility of the book itself is my favorite style and difficult to find just anywhere! So, stay tuned . . . I think we'll see some by the end of next week depending upon shipping time.

Because Lori Allsup is starting her Christmas cards, she reminded me that we needed to re-stock our Mirrircard papers. Golds, silvers, reds and greens have been ordered and should be here by next week as well! Thanks, Lori!

Have you signed up for the colored pencil classes by Peggy Jo Ackley with Pink Ink Stamp Company (formerly Karen Lockhart Stamps)? Peggy Jo is coming to Art 'n Soul at the end of this month to continue the beautiful art traditions in colored pencils that we've always enjoyed and learned from Karen. If you've never learned the art of colored pencil techniques, this is the class to take because it is a whole new world. Although we enjoy many different art mediums to use at Art 'n Soul, colored pencil continues as the #1 love of Susie's.

I was hoping to post pics throughout the CHA Show in Las Vegas. What I didn't anticipate was the difficulty connecting to the internet through wi-fi, and when I was online, how slow the wi-fi service was. I never did download one email when online in the public areas of the hotel, and the convention center did not offer wi-fi service.

The show was extremely small and I was able to finish my business by the end of the first day. I changed my flight reservations and caught the 9:50 p.m. flight to Seattle; unfortunately, the flight was delayed by approximately an hour but I made it home a little after 1:00 a.m.

So, today has been a little slow. I'm still working to download photos from my iPhone to the laptop because the camera card filled up too quickly! I'm hoping to post some photos about new products tomorrow. So, thanks for your patience and understanding; I'll talk to you soon!

KaiserCraft was one of the last vendors I visited before leaving. This is a photo of a wardrobe armoire that someone made using their papers. In addition to the beautiful workmanship and attention to detail, I was blown away by the two-sided dresses hanging in the armoire.

And this is a cute Halloween project made by John Petersen using the Halloween papers from Authentique papers.

It's time to end this day and rest up for tomorrow.
