I have to say this has been a fantastic weekend. For two days in a row, I've enjoyed spending time at Art 'n Soul for a mixed media play day, and then a washi tape class taught by Marj and Dianne. Both days, the energy level was way up there . . . art, laughter, contemplation, more laughter, and lots of ooh's and ahh's.

I am late in getting my class board up at the store but it will be there on Tuesday; I've been challenged with one of the class cards and have finally figured it out! Here is a sample of one of the cards you will make:

by Debbie Gaetz for Washi Ways class on June 20
at Art 'n Soul

Thursday, June 20, 1:30-3:30pm, Debbie Gaetz – “ Washi Ways” $30
Using beautiful Washi papers, create 4 beautiful cards using ‘Simple’ weaving and ‘Super Simple’ weaving, bargello, and one other fun technique. Please bring basic class kit to include small paper trimmer, craft knife, & small detail cutting scissors.
I hope you'll join me on the 20th!

Sharon Wolvin shared her recent zentangle work; Sharon's doing terrific work and we love the color she added to her work.

Marj and Dianne's Wild Ways with Washi Tape class yesterday was another outstanding class. I wasn't able to take pics of everyone's work but I wanted to share the wonderful card designs by Marj and Dianne. So I am going to show you the cards I made in class . . .

by Debbie Gaetz
we made the washi tape from the top layer
of a cocktail napkin and stamping background
designs in inks to match the stripes on the napkin;
the die overlay is from Cheery Lynn Designs

by Debbie Gaetz
the card piece on the left was wrapped
with plain colored washi tapes and then
stamped with the bird stamp from Magenta;
the die is from Lifestyle Crafts.

by Debbie Gaetz
the diagonal washi tapes were made
from the top layer of a cocktail napkin; we
liked how the design of the paper behind the
washi tapes could be seen through the washi tape

by Debbie Gaetz
various washi tape designs
were placed at a
diagonal on white card stock and torn at each end;
the bird die (Poppy Die) was cut into the white card stock
covered with washi tape and adhered to the
yellow base card; we were left with the beautiful
bird die cut that can be used inside the card or
used for another project. A background stamp was lightly inked on the front of the base card

by Debbie Gaetz
we made the washi tape from rice paper from
Fred Mullett by laying down various distress inks
on a craft sheet and adding copper all-purpose-ink
drops to the distress colors . . . spritzed with
Imagine Crafts®/Tsukineko® Ink Potion No. 9 to
activate the inks and then brayered, followed by laying
the rice paper over the ink mixture and brayering again
over the paper; a strip of the washi tape was added
to the rosette die cut before folding. very cool!
Everyone in class (i.e., Kerri, Deb, Marilyn, Margaret, Linda, Laurel, Roxanne, Peggy, Sharon, Susie, Jerry and Helen) -- if you have photos of your cards to share, please send them to the store or bring them in because I'd love to share your work from today! You are welcome to email us at:   (artnsoul@artnsoul.comcastbiz.net)
