The deliveries are coming in at Art 'n Soul for the Annual Christmas Party that happens this Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. All of the store elves are busily preparing. All you have to do is be there with us on Sunday! It's going to be an afternoon of holiday creativity . . . Memory Box Demo & Trunk Show of their latest holiday release, Magenta Trunk Show of their latest holiday release, and some open catalogs. And lots of samples from Art 'n Soul's extraordinary artistic staff! Susie is busy playing with something we've played with before but not necessarily for the holidays!

This last weekend, we enjoyed a Christmas card class using Rosie's Roadshow's new holiday stamps. They are just the most adorable stamp images and sentiments; Linda's humor is so wonderful! There are a few of the stamps left that were brought down on Saturday . . . you might want to rush over to Art 'n Soul to check them out.

These card samples are all A2 size.

The star above the hen house is a separate stamp. We used
a very light blue sparingly in the "snow" to show it's whiteness;
it was very effective! The photo doesn't show it, but the
cloud stencil was used with a light blue ink applied with
a dauber. Very nice effect.

by Rosie's Roadshow
Kerri McTarsney was very clever with this card; the duck had extra space
from the Santa's, so she hand drew a Santa bag for the duck. It turned
out very very cute!

The little vest is a stamp; Linda stamped the image
onto patterned card stock, cut it out, and
glued it onto the penguin with a glue pen.

You might want to sign up for the Rosie's Roadshow Calendar class at Art 'n Soul. Stop by the store or call us at 360.357.6820 to sign up.

I had earlier said that effective October 1, I would no longer post to this blog. With a very busy schedule at the end of September and beginning of October, I wasn't able to fit in what I still wanted to share. So, here I am one last time.

Art 'n Soul will be starting its own blog very shortly. When it is up and running, I will post their new blog address on this site, as well as my new blog address. This blog site will remain for you to return to for previous postings; if you're searching for something specific, be sure to use the "search" feature at the upper left corner of this page.

As I continually repeat, I will be a continuing customer and class student at Art 'n Soul, one of the best fine art rubber stamp stores in the Pacific Northwest . . . it really does have its own niche that isn't duplicated anywhere nearby. Please be sure to share your discovery of Art 'n Soul with your creative friends!

Night!

Kazuko Kocho's daughter is a budding artist. I share this photo of a recent colored pencil work by Emma. As some of you may know, Kazuko has taught at Art 'n Soul and she has an open invitation to return, soon we hope!

It's time to turn in, even though I've been sleeping forever it seems. We're supposed to enjoy rain this weekend; it's been quite elusive this summer and everything is so parched. It's also heightened the fire danger level to maximum in Washington State and much of our state's natural lands are burning up. So if you have nothing to do between artistic projects, please do a rain dance for us.

Night Night!

Art 'n Soul's August Inspiration Station features the "Handwritten Quotes" (MDR44475) stamp set by Dina Wakley from Ranger. This was a great selection by Carolyn Gough and the display is up at the store. You must come in and enjoy the art candy!

Those who are the 'early birds' at the store will be
able to purchase this stamp set at Art 'n Soul.

This is the card that I made. All of the quotes are so terrific that it will be easy to use every one of them for this month's Inspiration Station!

by Debbie Gaetz

  • Dina Wakley Media Stamps "Handwritten Quotes" (MDR44475) by Ranger
  • Memory Box Die - Paper Cut Tulips Circle (98828)
  • IMAGINE Crafts
    • Vertigo Film in Taffeta
    • StazOn Midi in Blue Hawaii
    • StazOn Solvent Ink in Sunflower Yellow
  • Stick It! double-sided adhesive sheet from Ken Oliver
  • Hanko Linen Paper - Tsumugi in Bright Orange and Blue
  • Curious Metallic Card Stock in Mandarin
  • Italian Handmade Paper
  • Glue Dots, Enamel Dot, MISTY stamp positioner

  • Die cut the tulip circle twice - once with the Italian paper and again with the Mandarin metallic card stock. Apply a piece of Stick It! to the backside of the orange card stock where the die will be placed.
  • Using the ink pad direct to paper method, apply the yellow StazOn to the backside of the vertigo (label side); allow to dry completely.
  • After the StazOn has dried on the Vertigo, adhere the orange die cut to the top center of the Vertigo film (on the side that wasn't inked) with the other side of the Stick It! adhesive sheet. Then adhere the Italian paper die cut on top, offsetting the position just slightly. I used a dab of glue on each of the tulip flower and the center circle of the Italian paper so I could 'smoosh' the position of the tulip blossom to a slight offset position.
  • Stamp the sentiment to the lower center (I used a stamp positioner because I can never stamp a sentiment straight by myself!).
  • Adhere the orange linen paper panel to the blue linen paper card base.
  • On the backside of the Vertigo panel, adhere glue dots underneath each tulip flower and the center circle. Adhere to the base card.
by Debbie Gaetz
I hope you'll purchase Dina's stamp set because you'll be able to use it for all sorts of projects, i.e., cards, art journaling, mixed media, etc. Because of a trip out of town tomorrow, I won't be able to bring this card into the store until Wednesday. I can assure you, though, that there will be much more beautiful and creative cards by Carolyn, Pam, Dianne, Marj and Susie.

If you weren't at Art 'n Soul this last Saturday for Play Day, you missed out on a great demo by Marj with IMAGINE Crafts' Creative Medium and the stencil pastes and embossing enamels from Dreamweaver Stencils that is now owned by Stampendous. The new Creative Mediums are all iridescent colors; the metallic colors will rise up when the medium is dry. The Stencil Pastes are opaque in several colors that you can also combine to make your own color combinations.

Marj Marion
She always put so much work into whatever she does,
and that includes the enormous amount of prep time it took
for Saturday's Play Day. We really appreciate you, Marj!

The 'players' were enjoying their time and were very anxious to try out what Marj was showing them. The photos are of their practice work which turned out very nice.

As I said, Marj is always so well prepared for whatever she presents to customers and students at Art 'n Soul. She kindly prepared a tip sheet and I believe there are some leftover sheets at the store.

These are the stencil projects that Marj demo'd at the store on Saturday, as well as those that she had prepared for Play Day, and some projects she had completed from before.

Be sure to stop in soon to see some of these cards in person. I know Marj left some of these cards so folks can be inspired. Several orders for the IMAGINE Crafts' Creative Medium were taken . . . you might to check with the store asap to see if you might be able to add to that order because most, if not all, of the Creative Mediums were sold on Saturday.

That's all for now. Carolyn will be at the store all day and would love to show you this month's Inspiration Station display. And don't forget that Memory Box is open catalog right now.

I'll hope to see you Tuesday or Wednesday after I return from my quick trip. Thanks for stopping by!
