Zentangle style Twinchie Squares
We are completely in love with the whole ZentangleR phenomena created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. If you are not familiar with this style of drawing it has to do with purposeful pattern and line placement. (Visit their website at http://www.zentangle.com/ for more information!)
Twinchie Squares of any color provide the perfect surface for this type of detailed pen work and it is especially fun to tinker with different types of pens as you experiment with this drawing technique.
Now you know why we took photos of each square....even though the poster is about 16" wide it's pretty hard to get a sense of it in a photo - suffice it to say it looks MUCH better in real life!!
And here's the latest Art 'n Soul class schedule . . .
We request that each student bring a BASIC CLASS KIT to each class. This should include at least a pencil, an eraser, a bone folder, scissors, ruler, double stick tape of choice, a craft knife, and a glue stick. If a student has a small portable paper trimmer, that can also be helpful. Some students also bring a Japanese hole punch and a cutting mat.
Wednesday, June 22, 1-5 p.m. – “PLAY DAY WITH GAIL AND HER THREADS!” IT’S FREE!!!
Come play with Spirelli! Get out those forms and thread you haven’t used and let’s compare what we can do. Gail will bring her Spellbinders dies, and punches, and we can have fun together. We will see what kind of interest we have, and perhaps make this another monthly event. See you there!
Wednesday, June 29, 2-4:30 p.m. OR 5:30-8 p.m. , Marj – “PASSION FOR PAN PASTELS”, $32
Calling all fans of Pan Pastels! Marj has new ideas for this wonderful art medium, and new samples, so sign up early for this informative and creative class. Many of you have purchased some Pastels , so here’s a chance to learn Marj’s creative techniques. We’ll make several cards and/or card tops, and a nifty embellishment or two. You will be able to have hands on experience and to actually see all the available Pan Pastel colors in person. Both new and returning Pan Pastel students are welcome. You may bring your own Pastels if you wish, along with tools you may own but please be sure all items are marked with your name. You also need to bring your basic kit. For your convenience, you may choose the afternoon or evening class.
Thursday, July 7, 2-4:30 p.m. OR 5:30-8 p.m., Marj – “LAYERS OF SUMMER”, $30
Marj is at it again with this additive layering technique! These cards will feature the fun ambience of summer using both napkin layers as well as stamped images. For returning students, it’s a chance to “feed your addiction” to this technique with new images, and it’s a chance for new students who might have missed Marj’s previous layering classes to learn the technique. We’ll add ribbons and other embellishments to finish off these amazing cards. Please bring an ample supply of foam tape, an ample supply of good quality glue stick, your basic kit, and a Cuttlebug (and mats) if you have one and can bring it. Come enjoy the AC at Art ’n Soul as you enjoy a “layer’ of summer fun at either the afternoon or evening class!
Wednesday, July 20, 6-8 p.m., Deb and Susie – “FINALLY, A COPICS CLASS!!!”, $30
After many requests for a class on Copic markers, we have finally scheduled one! Do you have Copic markers and aren’t quite sure what to do with them? What paper to use? What ink(s) to use? How to blend? Or not? Have you seen Copic markers used on cards and wondered, “How was that done?” And, finally, “Do I want to get started creating my own Copic collection? Deb and Susie have created a class to answer these questions and more. Stamped cards will be provided for you and the basics of Copic use will be demonstrated. You will then color your chosen cards and have 4 to 5 finished cards to take home. NOTE: WE ARE NOT CERTIFIED COPIC INSTRUCTORS, BUT USE COPICS AND ENJOY THEM SO MUCH WE THOUGHT WE WOULD PASS ON WHAT KNOWLEDGE WE DO HAVE. Please bring your basic kit and any Copic markers you may have. Please have your Copics marked with your name or initials so that you will go home with your own markers.

You’ve seen Sandy at the shows, and fully admired her beautiful work. Now you can learn this beautiful art form for yourself!

Then we will make the smaller version of the dove to put inside a very special card. When yu open the card and turn it inside-out the dove magically appears inside. We will learn how to make a slider mechanism to work the pop-up. As with the previous class, this is a class you will NOT want to miss!
Monday, July 25, 2-4:30 p.m. OR 5:30-8 p.m., Marj – “CREATIVE FUN WITH PAPER CASTING”, $30
It’s been a few years since Marj has taught this fun-filled summer time class. Paper Casting involves pressing wet special paper fibers in a ceramic/clay mold. When dry, the paper “cast” is a beautiful, white (usually) paper replica of the mold, which makes a great embellishment for cards, box tops or other items. Come in and see the samples! You will be able to make 8-10 casts, and choose your favorite two casts to mount on two cards. Card kits will vary. You can take your other completed casts home to adorn other cards or art projects. Marj has lots of tips for success and you’ll get a handout and even a cookie made from a mold! Sign up for the afternoon OR evening class, and bring your basic kit, please.
Saturday, July 30, 1-4 p.m., Susie – “CREATING A SPECIAL STAR BOOK”, $32
Apparently it’s time to offer this class again because customers keep asking for it! You will learn the fundamentals of folding, embellishing, attaching “signatures” together, and covering your own very special book! There is a sample at the store of a star book, and Susie will be bringing in the class project soon. You can either make the book according to Susie’s sample, or embellish it YOUR way! The fundamental techniques will remain the same. If you want to use different stamps for your book, please bring them to the class. Otherwise, just bring your basic kit, including a lot strong double sided adhesive.
On August 16 or 17 Lisa from Local King Rubber Stamps will be returning for at least two more of her delightful classes! Stay tuned!
On August 29 (probably) Helene from Magenta will be at Art ‘n Soul for two more of her incredible card classes. You won’t want to miss them!
