Fun with Magenta . . . Thanks, Helene!

Marj's Clinging to Summer Pan Pastel class is now an evening class only. Please sign up as soon as you can because September 7 is just around the corner  . . . the cards are fantastic, as always!

Wednesday, September 7th, 6-8:30 p.m., Marj
“CLINGING TO SUMMER WITH PAN PASTELS!” -- $32

Our “summer” was short, but we’ll cling to it a bit with these great cards featuring Pan Pastels! Both those who are new to Pan Pastels and returning students will love the techniques Marj will share in this class. Clever masking and a new method (thanks, Kim!) with water will enhance two cards, and you’ll also practice several types of applications on the other two cards. You will make four cards, plus a bonus card top and a sleek vellum envelope. You’ll receive instructions to keep as a reference on the techniques. Please bring your basic kit. If you own Pan Pastels and accessories, you may bring them, but this is not required to take the class.

And as soon as I can take a pic of one of her card samples for the new stencil class on October 15, I'll post that info for you as well.

I missed this afternoon's Magenta class on techniques but the end results were gorgeous! Some of the afternoon students were generous in allowing me to take pics of their art work for the blog. Clever use of alcohol inks, Magenta stencils, Art Quest water colors, embossing, Magenta Peel-Offs, Tombow markers used in a water-color technique combined with the beautiful Magenta stamp designs resulted in fabulous cards. What's fun is to see how different the card designs ended up even though they all used the same techniques, stamps, markersk stencils and peel-offs.

This looks like a watercolor 'master' piece . . . I can visualize it as a large mural-sized canvas!

Then came the evening class focusing on Christmas cards using similar techniques from the afternoon class.

Helene showing a new technique to use in making the first holiday card. There were 16 of us!

Helene showed us how to stamp on watercolor paper and use the Tombow markers
with water and watercolor paintbrushes.

Embossing technique used more than once . . . surprisingly simple to add the
'fallen snow' technique with Versamark and white embossing powder.

Halfway through the evening class, we all stopped to sing "Happy Birthday" to Susie who celebrates her birthday on Wednesday. Each student was asked to make Susie a birthday card and bring it to class, and I'm happy to report everyone responded with eagerness and delight.

Pink sheets are being taken now for our next Magenta order that will go in later this week. Magenta will make us special 12x12 chipboard sheets of the reindeer and the bird and holly cut-outs; they will fit however many they can of each image on the 12x12 chipboard and the price is $6.25 each. Magenta will also make special 8.5x11 sheets of the cardinal cut-out on adhesive backed cork for $7.15 each.

Lots of pink sheets were written up for the Magenta stamps, as well as the chipboard and cork cut-outs. And lots of Magenta papers, peel-offs, and Magenta's stencils used in the afternoon class went flying out the door.

All of the cards from the evening class were beautiful and easy-to-make cards once we knew what we were doing. Most every one of my cards are considered 'prototypes' to show what to do and what not to do. When I finish the wreath card, I'll post it for you to see.

We want to thank Helene for taking the time to come out for another visit and to teach another fabulous set of classes. We're never disappointed and we always leave eager to learn more from Helene when she visits again.

Before I sign off for the night, I have to share with you pics from a visitor who drifted by our dock yesterday afternoon. Her name is Koda, she's about 5 years old and lives just down the lake from us. She's very sweet.

Koda loves the water (it helps that her breed is known for being such a good water dog). She walks onto the board from their dock and loves to sit on the board while her 'mom and dad' do all of the rowing! However, they tell me that there are times when she swims with them and when they near their home, they'll hold onto her tail and she will bring them in. Yesterday afternoon, she enjoyed a long and leisurely float on the lake. I hope she visits again before the summer ends. She's a dandy!
