Class Schedule & Events for Art 'n Soul & More of Marj's Magic

Here's the latest Art 'n Soul class schedule as of July 10:

Wednesday, July 20, 6-8 p.m.
Deb and Susie – “FINALLY, A COPICS CLASS!!!”, $30

After many requests for a class on Copic markers, we have finally scheduled one!  Do you have Copic markers and aren’t quite sure what to do with them?  What paper to use?  What ink(s) to use?  How to blend?  Or not? Have you seen Copic markers used on cards and wondered, “How was that done?”  And, finally, “Do I want to get started creating my own Copic collection?  Deb and Susie have created a class to answer these questions and more.  Stamped cards will be provided for you and the basics of Copic use will be demonstrated.  You will then color your chosen cards and have 4 to 5 finished cards to take home.  NOTE:  WE ARE NOT CERTIFIED COPIC INSTRUCTORS, BUT USE COPICS AND ENJOY THEM SO MUCH WE THOUGHT WE WOULD PASS ON WHAT KNOWLEDGE WE DO HAVE.  Please bring your basic kit and any Copic markers you may have.  Please have your Copics marked with your name or initials so that you will go home with your own markers.

Saturday, July 23, 10 AM – 12 PM.
Sandy of SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED“HASTY LACE TOUR OF TECHNIQUES,” $25

With a combination of show and tell and a series of small projects, we will explore the many ways to use Hasty Lace templates.  Hands on will include embossing and coloring, piercing vellum or card stock, extending patterns, freeform edgings, and a framing project to make at home.  You’ve seen Sandy at the shows, and fully admired her beautiful work.  Now you can learn this beautiful art form for yourself!!

Saturday, July 23, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm.
Sandy of SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED“MAGICAL POP-UP DOVE CARD (AND A DOVE NAPKIN RING TOO!), $25

Learn how to make a Dove from Some Assembly Required.  We will start by making the larger version of the dove and using it to make a lovely napkin ring.  Then we will make the smaller version of the dove to put inside a very special card.  When yu open the card and turn it inside-out the dove magically appears inside.  We will learn how to make a slider mechanism to work the pop-up.  As with the previous class, this is a class you will NOT want to miss!

Monday, July 25, 2-4:30 p.m. OR 5:30-8 p.m.
Marj – “CREATIVE FUN WITH PAPER CASTING”, $30

It’s been a few years since Marj has taught this fun-filled summer time class.  Paper Casting involves pressing wet special paper fibers in a ceramic/clay mold.  When dry, the paper “cast” is a beautiful, white (usually) paper replica of the mold, which makes a great embellishment for cards, box tops or other items.  Come in and see the samples!  You will be able to make 8-10 casts, and choose your favorite two casts to mount on two cards.  Card kits will vary.  You can take your other completed casts home to adorn other cards or art projects.  Marj has lots of tips for success and you’ll get a handout and even a cookie made from a mold!  Sign up for the afternoon OR evening class, and bring your basic kit, please.

Saturday, July 30, 1-4 p.m.
Susie – “CREATING A SPECIAL STAR BOOK”, $32

Apparently it’s time to offer this class again because customers keep asking for it!  You will learn the fundamentals of folding, embellishing, attaching “signatures” together, and covering your own very special book!   There is a sample at the store of a star book, and Susie will be bringing in the class project soon.  You can either make the book according to Susie’s sample, or embellish it YOUR way!  The fundamental techniques will remain the same.  If you want to use different stamps for your book, please bring them to the class.  Otherwise, just bring your basic kit,  including  a lot strong double sided adhesive.

On August 16 or 17
Lisa from Local King Rubber Stamps
will be returning for at least two more of her delightful classes!  Stay tuned!

Saturday, August 20, 1-4 p.m.
Marj – “AVIAN ARCHITECTURE!”, $30

Put away your “to do” list and come enjoy a creative afternoon as you make a beautiful paper birdhouse, which Marj created with various Spellbinders and Memory Box dies.  Marj will guide you through the construction process and provide the gorgeous paper, instructions, and an assortment of embellishments, including some from nature.  Please bring your basic kit, some strong, liquid glue (Crafter’s Pick Is great) and your favorite small scissors for detail cutting.  You are welcome to bring your own embellishments if desired.  We will all make the size birdhouse in the sample, but Marj will have samples of a larger one, and a tiny one!  This single class is limited to 12 people, so sign up early!

Monday, August 29, 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Helene – “TECHNIQUE MYSTERIES”, $30

In this class you will make 4 cards, Helene style, all using “not-so-obvious” techniques that you will want to use again with other Magenta stamps.  As always, you will not want to miss this Magenta class.  Helene’s classes are always a hit so you will want to sign up early.

Monday, August 29, 6-8 p.m.
Helene – “CHRISTMAS A FEW MONTHS EARLY’, $30

Magenta has some beautiful stamps for the holidays, and Helene will be using them to make 4 creative and very special cards, ones that you will want to replicate for the holidays.  Get in the holiday spirit early – you won’t be sorry!

Here's another Marj demo from the party using Spellbinders' Grand Caliber and Grand Labels Die on Graphic 45's Once Upon a Springtime paper . . .

After cutting the paper with the die, Marj folds up each of the
four corners; because of the die design, there will be open
areas between each of the folds.

You can see that she cut the die shape twice. The first die cut is placed flat
on the cardstock. The second die cut's corners are folded up and placed
onto the flat die cut, fold side up. Another piece of cardstock has
then been cut with another Spellbinder die and centered onto the
folded die cut piece. The die cuts on the centered paper are from
Memory Box.

Marj also used the Graphic 45 Once Upon a Springtime
cardstock on the inside of this special card.

It's good to be back from Lake Tahoe, especially when we're greeted with sunshine. Tahoe is a beautiful place, very scenic and very outdoorsy, but you know . . . 'there's no place like home!' Hope to see you soon at Art 'n Soul!

Tom standing in the middle of Lake Tahoe and
straddling the California/Nevada state line!

By the way, the new Memory Box catalog for the holidays is at the store . . . more pink sheets. I must dream in pink!

Creativity is not a motive, it's simply an attitude of open-mindedness.
