Webster's Pages & New Class Schedule

Webster's Pages arrived today. There are 6x6 paper paks that either combine the "Lullaby Lane & Life's Portrait" series or the "Garden Gala, Seaside Retreat and one other" series. In addition, there are 12x12 sheets from the Life's Portrait and Garden Gala series.

To make room for the new paper stock coming in, there are 12x12 papers on the back table that we're discounting 35%. Many of the papers are from the various Anna Griffin lines, including the beautifully flocked papers. Come in early for the best selection.

I've added 3 new classes to the schedule that are not on the printed schedule yet . . .
  • "Blooming Creations" on Tuesday, July 13, from 6:00 to 8:00'ish featuring the new Spellbinder Nestabilities and stamps from Heartfelt Creations that are on order. We talked to the company this morning and because of a snafu at their end, they are bending over backwards to accommodate the Art 'n Soul order by hopefully pushing our order out their door tomorrow if the die-cuts come in on time, instead of waiting to ship out on June 30!
  • "Peeling Pretty" on Tuesday, July 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., featuring ways to use the Magenta Peel-Off's that we've been crazed about recently, including the 3-D techniques. The beautifully creative and imaginative ways to use Magenta products as only they can inspire us.
  • "Alice in Spookland" Halloween Book on Sunday, August 1, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Using the new Graphic 45 Alice in Wonderland Halloween papers, cut-outs and other ephemera to create a fun early project for Halloween. The Alice in Wonderland Halloween papers will come out for an early introductory on July 5 (pending on-time delivery), and will be "put away" on August 10 until our other Halloween papers arrive in early September. When you hear the paper is "in" . . . don't delay.
If you haven't signed up for the two classes on Saturday, July 24, taught by Terry Medaris, don't delay! He's introducing 40 new stamps as well! (Yes, you read it correctly . . . forty new stamps!) The first class runs from 10:30 to 1:30 and the second class runs from 2:30 to 4:00. You'll be disappointed if you're not in these classes, so sign up now!

Technical glitches surfaced when the new class schedule was emailed to the ANS customer list. Until the word-processing guru's can figure out what happened today, I am sharing the printed list as it came out today from Susie. It won't feature the beautiful lettering that Susie uses but the words are ALL hers!

ADDITIONAL CLASSES ARE OFTEN ADDED, SO KEEP CHECKING THE SCHEDULE, AS WELL AS THE CLASS SAMPLES AT THE STORE! YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO MISS SOMETHING!

Staff Members are willing to teach a “ Basics” class at almost any time for a minimum of 3 people, so if you have a small group that is interested in learning about various inks and other elements of basic stamping,

Sunday, June 27, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Tamara – “ILLUMINATED LETTERS”, $35

Take a class that follows in the footsteps of beautifully illustrated ancient manuscripts using different styles of alphabet letters, gold leaf, highlight line brushwork, and colored pencil techniques. While Monks could work for days on a single illustration, you will learn how to make three cards in a single class. You may choose your own alphabet letters to make your cards unique and more personal. Basic class kit would be helpful.

Saturday, July 10, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Laura L. – ‘CHRISTMAS IN JULY”, $30

It’s never too early to start planning for the holidays! We will be making four cards using Outlines rubber stamps. You’ll have to see the clever technique in the samples at the store. Please bring your basic class kit, Xacto knife and your favorite glitter, glaze and soufflé pens.

Sunday, July 11, 2-4 p.m., Elaine – “ENCAUSTIC WAX PLAY DATE”, $35

This class is designed for those of you who want to learn (in a fun, no pressure, and positive environment) basic encaustic wax techniques. The goal is to develop skills that will take your paper crafting to a new level. Encaustic wax papers are beautiful for backgrounds, mosaics, borders, or inspirational papers for stamping. The class is limited in theory and abundant in “hands-on”, so come prepared to get down and dirty! Space is limited to 8 so sign up soon!

Monday, July 12m 5:30-8:30 p.m., Marj – “NATURE PHOTO CARDS” $32
CANCELLED

You’ll enjoy making wonderful cards with Marj’s photos of nature’s beauty throughout the year. Marj will share photography hints, composition ideas, and techniques for using vellum, Spellbinder dies, IO clear “pockets”, shrink plastic, nail heads and punches as we embellish your cards. You may bring some of your own photos; however the card packets will match the photos shown on the sample board. Marj will bring extra samples of other ways to use photographs on cards. A kit of additional photos will be available to purchase. Please bring your basic kit to class, along with a small paper trimmer.

Saturday, July 17, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Gloria – “RADIAL MEDALLIONS”, $25

Through the use of Lumiere paints, gel pens, and stamps, you will create as many of these circular cut out designs that time allows in this 2 hour class. This technique is fun and simple, and the design possibilities are endless. If you like to draw, you can even use these skills rather than using stamps. These medallions can be framed as art or used for card and journal decorations. Finishing and design options will be given. Symmetrical designs on stamps turn out the best results, so if you have any, you’re welcome to bring them to class. Please bring a pair of scissors for cutting out fine details through several layers.

Saturday, July 17, 1:30 -3:30 p.m., Gloria – “WISH BOXES”, $30 (Back by Popular Demand!)

In this class you will create an “icon” inspired box to store your wishes, prayers, dreams, ATC cards, new year’s resolutions, inchies, jewelry, coins, etc. The box will be painted with Lumiere paints, decorated with embossing metal, colored pencils, US ArtQuest watercolor palettes, and embellished with rhinestones and other items of your choosing. Please bring your Prismacolor pencils (and an US ArtQuest watercolor palette if you have one).

Sunday, July 18, 1-4 p.m., Diane Radischat – “ALICE IN WONDERLAND –A BOOK”, $35
Postponed Indefinitely -- Diane's wrist was injured and the doctor says "no detail work" for at least a month!

Are you a fan of Alice and all the characters that Lewis Carroll created? I know I was! In this class you will get to use stamps created from the original drawings in the creation of your very own Alice in Wonderland book. You’ll be adding touches of buttons, charms, embossing, ribbons, great Ephemera and incredible papers, all themed. Be sure to check the sample at the store!

THE RETURN OF TERRY MEDARIS!

Terry’s colored pencil classes are always extremely popular and this time he will be arriving with over 40 new designs! You won’t want to miss these “reformatted” classes:

Saturday, July 24, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Terry Medaris –“BASIC BLENDING ON PAPER AND ON MARBLED TILE”, $60 . . . reduced to $45 as of 6/26/2010

This year Terry is combining two classes into one. The first segment of the class will focus on how to select the appropriate colors to use to learn his blending techniques. Terry will demonstrate the techniques he uses with soft lead Prismacolor pencils. He will explain what types of paper and cardstock he uses, as well as what tools he uses to clean up his artwork. He will also demonstrate the proper use of these tools. You will be given a pre-stamped greeting card as well as samples of Terry’s artwork to practice the blending techniques on. In the second half of the class, students will apply the knowledge they have just learned on a pre-stamped 4 x 4” tumbled marble tile. Then they will color in the design using his blending techniques with Prismacolor pencils.

Please bring Prismacolor soft lead pencils (a set of at least 36 or 48 is recommended to give you a better selection of colors), as well as a pencil sharpener. Please have pencils sharpened before class. (Sharpen the pencil end opposite the color name and pencil number.)

Saturday, July 24, 2:30-4 p.m., Terry Medaris – “COLOR BLENDING REFRESHER”, $25

This is a “refresher course” for those who have already taken earlier classes with Terry and want to “brush up” on their coloring and blending skills. Terry will furnish some designs for you to practice on, and will provide one-on-one assistance or guidance to students. A perfect time to have a “private” lesson from Terry!

Sunday, June 25, 1-3 p.m., Tamara –“RUBBER CEMENT STAINED GLASS”, $20

Use simple materials to create surprisingly beautiful and complicated-looking results! You will create 3 samples and choose your favorite to assemble a unique bookmark gift card. Please bring your class kit. Bear in mind there will be fumes from the rubber cement. Wear old clothes and bring a heat tool to help dry the glue.

A very unique class, not to be missed!

Tuesday, July 27, 6-8 p.m., Marj – “CREATIVE TECHNIQUES WITH SPELLBINDER DIES”, $30

The wonderful Spellbinder Dies offer SO many possibilities for making beautiful cards. This class will go beyond the basic cutting and embossing, and help you see new, creative uses for a wide variety of dies. Come join the fun as we combine the die cuts with embossing folders and explore nifty layering techniques. This is not a beginning Wizard class….participants NEED to know how to cut and emboss with your machine. Please bring a Wizard or Cuttlebug and the appropriate mats to class, along with your basic class kit. Time restraints and lots of cutting and embossing mean we need a die cut machine for at least each two people. If you don’t own one, you can sign up with a friend with whom you can share. Check the supply list for helpful items to bring to class.

Sunday, August 15, 2-4 p.m., Elaine – “EXPLORING ENCAUSTIC WAX PAPERS IN LANDSCAPE DESIGNS”, $35

This class is a great follow-up to “Encaustic Wax Play Date!” – you do not, however, need to have taken that class in order to find this one fun and informative. Although basic wax techniques will be discussed and practiced, the primary goal of this class is to explore the effects of encaustic wax on a variety of papers. We will be creating background papers using tissue, parchment, and watercolor paper which we will then use to make torn paper landscapes. This class will be rich in experimentation and imagination so come prepared to explore and discover! Space is limited to 8 so sign up soon! If you have a craft iron please bring it with you.

FRED MULLETT MAY HAVE MOVED TO THE MIDWEST, BUT HIS HEART IS STILL IN THE NORTHWEST, SO HE IS COMING TO VISIT. DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE CLASSES FROM THIS FINE ARTIST. FRED IS PERHAPS BEST KNOWN FOR HIS EXPERTISE IN THE ART OF NATURE PRINTING BUT HIS NEXT CLAIM TO FAME WOULD BE AMUSING, AND WELL-ORGANIZED CLASSES WHERE STUDENTS LEARN TECHNIQUES THEY WILL NEVER FIND IN ANY OTHER CLASSES. Sign up soon since spaces are limited.

Friday, September 3, 4-8 p.m., Fred Mullett -- "THE ELEGANT MESS”, $50

A veritable food fight of a class! Where the spontaneous meets the specific. Where the positive meets the negative. And where leftovers go to play. We will fiddle around with principles of figure/ground relationship as we integrate sprayed color washes and splattered paint, collage, stencils, and stamps on Oriental and watercolor paper with remarkable results. Suitable for small or large format work, this visual play time will add miles to artistic efforts! Runs 3½ -4 hours. $50.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

Saturday, September 4, 9 a.m. – 12 Noon, Fred Mullett -- "FRED B. AND HIS DANCING RUBBER FISH –ADVANCED EMBOSSING TECHNIQUES”, $50

(An elaboration of the article, "Painting With Plastic; Multicolor Embossing with Fred B. Mullett", Somerset Studio.) Expanding the methods of multi-color printing with multi-color embossing and watercolor additions, this class is geared toward the experienced student, though could be considered a "sink or swim" lesson for beginners. (There will also be a short demonstration on how to make colored transparent powders using alcohol inks.) Runs 3½ -4 hours. $50.00 per student, includes handouts and instructor-provided supplies. Max - 12 students.

Saturday, September 4, 2-6 p.m., Fred Mullett – ‘”SPRITZ ME, BABY….MO’ BETTAH!, DIFFUSED WATERCOLOR EFFECTS”, $50 F

inding merit in the "less is more" concept and the power of imprecision, this class focuses on the soluble properties of markers and other water-based media to achieve watercolor effects using rubber stamps. Bleaching out imagery on black paper, then re-introducing color with high contrast accents is also tackled to achieve startling effects. Runs 3½ -4 hours. $50.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Raincoats are optional. (Just kidding!) Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

Chlorine bleach is used in this class. Due to the caustic nature of this chemical, students are STRONGLY warned of the hazards! Suggested safety materials may include - but are not limited to - latex gloves, a work apron, and eye protection. Remember to take care, and to look out for those around you and their property.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 AND MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, RECYCLED RUBBER! (PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE TO ACCOMMODATE FRED MULLETT’S TEACHING SCHEDULE!)
