The long-awaited order from Memory Box arrived on Saturday. Orders were filled, telephone calls were made, and there's still several of the new summer dies left for you to select from.

The Art 'n Soul Journal Club met on Friday. WOW!
by Sam Lee
This is Sam's journal cover. Recognize the design? It's
one of the paper towels in the Art 'n Soul artfully-decorated powder room.
by Sam Lee
Sam's really getting into the free-hand drawing and having sooo much fun!

by Sam Lee
This is her next project in the journal. See the faint outline of her hand, weird knuckle
and all (by Sam's own admission!). Notice the zentangling of the girl's hair.

Judy Daugherty and Gloria Walker are now working together on an Island Journal. It's seriously beautiful . . . and then some!

BACK COVER

Judy shared with me another book she's working on . . .
by Judy Daugherty
Clever! Judy used the Dreamweaver Stencils for the butterflies, background
trees and clouds, and turned all of those images into 'magic'!
by Judy Daugherty
Judy drew a group picture of her journal buddies . . .
gee, can you guess who they are?
Hint:  look at the designs on their clothing.

by Judy DaughertyI think Judy should expand into the fabric design business!
The flourishes behind the leaves are made with the glitter pearl pens.

The hand is an actual outline of Judy's hand and away she went!
She said one 'doodle' begets another 'doodle' and pretty
soon you have a work of art. Look at all of the ways Judy added,
colored, doodled and outlined what's on the page.
I love what Kathy Peterson does. She 'shares' a journal with her niece so they can write back and forth, sharing their thoughts and ideas, reminiscing about family events, and whatever else they want to do. At some future time, Kathy's niece is going to have a special one-of-a-kind remembrance of who her Aunt Kathy was and all that they shared. They mail the journal back and forth to each other.

Kathy also shares a similar journal activity with her best friend from school. What a great way to keep up their friendship living miles apart.

My mind is thinking of some grandnieces and grandnephews I could share something like this with; nothing in-depth for their young souls yet but some ways to share their childhood together. And when Cecilia is old enough, I can share one with her. Thanks, Kathy, for sharing this idea!

Tamara Hyde's artistry is back in action.
by Tamara Hyde
I remember some of these from before when they
were still works-in-progress.
by Tamara Hyde
I really like how Tamara has put these separate pieces together
from her 'giving thanks' works.

We missed seeing Carla and Midge . . . hope to see all of you again next month! The second Friday in August is reserved for the Art 'n Soul Journal Club . . . the most creative and artistic Journal Club. Thanks, everyone, for allowing me to share your journalistic passions with our readers.

Cheery Lynn started to introduce their holiday dies . . .

Christmas in July New Release

"Today. Cheery Lynn Designs is releasing 8 new holiday dies for your enjoyment.  I have made a couple projects using some of them.  My first project is a festive box to hold my Christmas cards.

This box is quite large, measuring 9 inches wide, 6.5 inches tall and 4.25 inches deep. I created the scalloped panels with next to the largest Scalloped Rectangle Mega Doily Reflections die. I created the inside box using chipboard as I wanted this to be quite sturdy.

To decorate the front, I added the new Fireplace Stockings frame, it measures 4.25 x 5.5 inches. I paper pieced all the individual parts adding fluff to the tops of the stocking but it looks quite stunning just as a die cut. I added 2 holly leaves in the upper corner from the new Holly Leaves strip die. This is a fabulous die; you get 3 pairs of leaves in graduated sizes. This is the medium size. Also new is the Merry Christmas sentiment set. There are 2 dies in this set; I have used the larger of the two for my box.

One each end, I have added the new Lace Christmas Tree die. It comes with an angel wing but I chose not to use it. The star is part of the die; look at the lovely lace detailing. No one does it better!

For the other side of my box, I have added the new Merry Christmas Card frame, backing it with gold metallic paper. This also measure 4.25 x 5.5 inches.  I used the new Build a Flower 1 dies to create my flower; adding the largest Holly Leaves to the flower and the smallest to the bottom corner.

This was a fun project to make and quite simple with Cheery Lynn Designs dies. My second project is a tag.

This is the new Lace Christmas Stocking die. I added a hand cut backing to the die, then paper pieced the cuff in gold. I used my Mini Font dies for the name. And again added some Holly Leaves. The oval backing was created with my Scalloped Oval XL Stackers and matching Silver Oval Stackers. This tag is 6 inches tall. There are two more dies being released today, a Happy Holidays sentiment set of 2 and a beautiful Holly Corner. Be sure to visit the Cheery Lynn Designs website to see them all."

I'm in Chicago waiting for the CHA Trade Show to start on Tuesday morning. Coincidentally, Tom's national summer meeting is in Chicago at the same time, so I'm staying in downtown Chicago along the Magnificent Mile at The Drake. It's an old hotel (1920), full of rich history.

We walked along the Magnificent Mile to the bridges after we checked into the hotel. The river was alive! with busy pedestrian walkways, private boaters, and lots of water taxis and tour boats. The sun was shining and it was hot . . . luckily, there was a good wind.

Susie and Helene are in Chicago, too. We're meeting up tomorrow to be a part of the architectural tour of Chicago by boat; everyone says it is a 'must-do' when in Chicago. This is the home town of my favorite architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, and I'll try to recall images from "Loving Frank", one of my favorite fictionalized renditions of someone's life based on fact.
